For homeowners who do not need a specific design recreated or reproduced, pre-made products are generally a far more cost-effective way to take advantage of plastic injection molding technology. Many companies offer a wide range of pre-made products made from plastic injection molding and chances are, you already own many of these products. One of the most common uses of the procedure for home building and design products is in making trim, ceiling medallions, crown moldings and similar decorative products. These products are often more durable, lightweight, and easier to install than wood, plaster, or other more traditional materials, yet can be stained or painted to have the same classic look. This is but one of the many possibilities for the versatile technology of plastic injections molding.

The details of the design in a large part determines the cycle time of the machine. The cycle time is the amount of time it takes from the time a part is ejected from the machine to the time the next part ejects. Smaller parts require less "fill time", the time it takes for the machine to push the melted resin into the mold, and thinner part walls cool faster reducing the "hold time". The customer is charged a set up fee which pays for installing the mold into the injection molding machine, and getting it ready to mold parts. Typically it runs a couple of hundred dollars and depends on things like how big the mold is and which accessories will be needed etc.

The ability to reverse engineer existing molds and molded parts allows us to build new and improved custom tooling for the customers. Digital data files and computerized machining are used almost exclusively for tooling of plastic injection molded custom molds. Computerized plastic injection molding machines in China are used almost exclusively for production. For plastic injection molding in China aluminum short-run rapid prototype molds are faster and are an economical solution for customers needing to prove out new part and product designs prior to production tooling. Over-mold injection molding and two-shot injection molding are two distinctly different molding methods even though both are used to combine multiple polymers into a single part. Because of this similarity, the two are often confused or misapplied by the design engineer. The more finite capabilities of these two molding methods differ as much as their required tooling, machines and often, the resulting part cost. Choosing the right method can be a critical factor in achieving targeted features, cost and time-to-market. Both methods can be used to create the soft-touch products popular in today's marketplace. However, both methods can be applied to other applications where multiple polymers must be combined into a single part. Over-mold injection molding is used for parts that do not require fine detail and can absorb the higher cost of machine time and labor. 2-shot injection molding is reserved for parts requiring fine detail and low part cost.
